Fantascienza, vecchia e grande passione. Suggestioni che arrivano dagli anni '70 e, non a caso, all'inizio la carrellata parte con i Pink Floyd (primo amore musicale -e i primi album sono pura fantascienza-) per arrivare ai Genesis (che fatica decidere tra questo pezzo e il trifidiano "The Return of the Giant Hogweed"), passando per Van Der Graaf Generator, Kantner con i Jefferson (grazie a Rama) e Return to Forever di Chick Corea.
La musica ha fatto riferimento alla sf in molti modi (cfr. SF-references-in-music List) e non e` stato facile tagliare fuori, tra i molti altri, Tangerine Dream e Frank Zappa, e decidere quali pezzi mettere: Bjork perche` e` un amore degli ultimi anni, Adrian Belew perche` il suo pezzo mi ricorda la telefonata dalla luna di "2001 Odissea nello spazio", Kate Bush perche` mi ha sempre affascinato pur scoprendo questo pezzo sf quasi per caso, David Bowie perche` cadde sul nostro pianeta, Enya per la sonorita` eterea che contrasta con tutti gli altri pezzi.
E, appena prima di Enya, il pezzo forse migliore dei King Crimson: "Epitaph". Forse "Epitaph" era fantascienza nel 1969, ma ora e` triste attualita`. E, anche se la fantascienza non ha la pretesa di "indovinare" quale sara` il nostro futuro, a volte capita che ci prenda (si tratta semplicemente un fatto statistico, niente di incredibile): "Knowledge is a deadly friend / When no one sets the rules. / The fate of all mankind I see / Is in the hands of fools."
